Introducing Private.sh: A search engine that Cryptographically Protects Your Privacy
The following announcement was written by the Private Internet Access Research Team, a service of the company that sells Private Internet Access, a very popular VPN:
Private.sh is a new private search engine that uses cryptography to ensure that your search history cannot be tracked by anyone – even us. Private.sh comes from the same privacy committed makers of Private Internet Access in partnership with GigaBlast – one of the few companies to have their own index of the internet available for search.
This first truly private search engine is possible thanks to the partnership, with each partner playing a key part of the puzzle to provide a new standard for cryptographically secured privacy for search engines.
With Private.sh, your search privacy is protected with both encryption and anonymity.
When you enter a search term into Private.sh, the search term gets encrypted on the client side (on your computer or device) using GigaBlast’s public key, which only they can decrypt. In effect, this ensures that Private.sh never sees the search term.
After the search term is encrypted, it is passed to the GigaBlast search engine through a Private.sh proxy so GigaBlast doesn’t see your IP address, browser fingerprints, or anything that would allow for your privacy to be broken or a user profile to be created. This means that neither Private.sh or GigaBlast is able to build a user profile on you or store your search history.
Finally, the search results are encrypted by GigaBlast using your temporary public key and are returned to you through the Private.sh proxy. The results then get decrypted and rendered locally on your device using Javascript with a temporary private key that only exists on your device. This client-side keypair is changed for every search request.
With this multi-pronged approach, Private.sh is the perfect option when you need to search something privately.
Private Search is finally here, and improving
Another benefit is that since Private.sh and GigaBlast are both unable to build a user profile on you, you’ll be able to get unbiased and private search results every time. You may notice that these results aren’t as accurate or algorithmically tailored to you based on your search history. This is by design and makes Private.sh a perfect complement to your favorite search engine, for when you want to make a search that is truly private.
We will constantly be working to better your search experience without compromising your security. In the future, Private.sh will be working with GigaBlast to expand their index of the internet to bring more results. Private.sh is determined to be your private search engine of choice.

Windows will improve user privacy with DNS over HTTPS |

" In a post yesterday to the Microsoft Tech Community blog, Microsoft Windows Core Networking team members Tommy Jensen, Ivan Pashov, and Gabriel Montenegro announced that Microsoft is planning to adopt support for encrypted Domain Name System queries in order to "close one of the last remaining plain-text domain name transmissions in common web traffic."
That support will first take the form of integration with DNS over HTTPS (DoH), a standard proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force and supported by Mozilla, Google, and Cloudflare, among others. "As a platform, Windows Core Networking seeks to enable users to use whatever protocols they need, so we’re open to having other options such as DNS over TLS (DoT) in the future," wrote Jensen, Pashov, and Montenegro.
"For now, we're prioritizing DoH support as the most likely to provide immediate value to everyone. For example, DoH allows us to reuse our existing HTTPS infrastructure."

Google Confirms Android Camera Security Threat! |

" The security research team at Checkmarx has made something of a habit of uncovering alarming vulnerabilities, with past disclosures covering Amazon’s Alexa and Tinder. However, a discovery of vulnerabilities affecting Google and Samsung smartphones, with the potential to impact hundreds of millions of Android users, is the biggest to date.
What did the researchers discover? Oh, only a way for an attacker to take control of smartphone camera apps and remotely take photos, record video, spy on your conversations by recording them as you lift the phone to your ear, identify your location, and more.
All of this performed silently, in the background, with the user none the wiser."

Ransomware is growing fast |

" Ransomware is growing fast and could become more difficult to tackle as the criminal ecosystem shifts from a few dominant players to many smaller ones.
Tech security company Bitdefender analysed Windows security threats including ransomware, coin miners, fileless malware, PUAs ('potentially unwanted applications' that can compromise privacy or security), exploits (attacks based on unpatched or previously-unknown vulnerabilities) and banking Trojans.
Bitdefender found that of all these threats, ransomware reports saw the biggest year-on-year increase – 74.2%. Ransomware also ranked first in terms of the total number of reports."
