Users can clean up the disc from the Settings app

One of the changes that Microsoft could be planning in the upcoming Windows 10 Spring Creators Update (codenamed Redstone 4) is likely to be a transition of the Disk Cleanup capabilities from the classic menu to Settings.

As GHacks discovered, Windows 10 Spring Creators Update comes with a new section in Settings > System > Storage that allows users to perform the typical cleaning maintenance process without having to launch the Disk Cleanup tool.

While options to clean up the disk were already there, it looks like Microsoft has included more settings to let users decide what exactly to remove. They can choose between Windows upgrade log files, system-created Windows Error Reporting files, Windows Defender non-critical files, thumbnails, temporary files, and items in the Recycle Bin.

Clicking the Remove files button has the same effect as launching a disk cleanup process and it removes all the selected items. The Settings app also offers a brief description of each option, along with how much space they eat up on the local drives.

Settings app improvements
Microsoft is trying to make Windows 10 more intuitive and straightforward, and the Settings app has received plenty of improvements in this regard.

One of the company’s priorities is to migrate all configuration options from the classic Control Panel to the Settings app, and this is happening as we speak, though some items are yet to make the switch. Sooner or later, however, the Control Panel will be retired, and all configuration options will be available in the Settings app.

The Windows 10 Spring Creators Update is projected to launch as soon as this month, and it will ship to users as part of a gradual rollout. The first systems are likely to get it on April 10, followed by more waves as Microsoft manages to address software and hardware compatibility issues.
