Problems with January 2016 update
#1
windows 8 January update 2016 (140 Mb) is full of problems
It causes BSOD on my windows and another laptop with windows 7

I do system restore on my laptop to regain it working again

I did a google search and it caused a lot of problems to many users especially some of the security updates (also in win 8.1 and 10)

Did anyone observe this??

Usually it`s better not to update immediately any kind of software, we cannot always be sure that all the bugs have been patched. That`s why I don`t want to take any risk with "hot" updates. :dodgy:

I hadn't installed any of the updates on my Win7 machine yet.

But the only problems I've seen written about are:
  • KB3114570 for Outlook 2010 (link)
  • KB3124585 for SharePoint 2013 (link)
  • KB3093594 for Windows Live Mail 2012 (link) and
  • KB3114570* for Outlook 2010 which is supposed to fix problems with installing last month's KB3114409 (link)
        * Note that both Woody Leonard (Info World) and Susan Bradley (Windows Secret) both say KB3114570 should only be installed if you previously installed KB3114409 and Outlook 2010 is being forced to open in Safe Mode (I hid it)

Of course, that doesn't count the problems I've seen reported for Win10 updates.

Also, I subscribe to Windows Secrets and Bradley so far has only reported problems with Win10 updates (plus the advice on KB3114570) and only suggesting waiting to install the non-security MS Office updates.

I should also mention that I only saw one "Win10 Upgrade" related update show up on my machine: KB2952664 reappeared again and I hid it once again. (All "Win10 Upgrade" related, "Telemetry" and "Windows Update Clients" updates have been hidden)

Could you share some of the links to articles about problems with other Win7 updates?

Experiences like you're having are reason I've been taking system images of my machine both before and after I install MS Updates.

Normally i would wait for the update reviews or users' feed back before i give it a go.

MS normally create one problem to solve another, it's a kind of vicious circle to me.

In fact all new win OS are built base on their previous succession, and yet they never got things right, they just push the newer OS, AND FORGET ABOUT THE PREVIOUS PROBLEMS.

Win 8 and 8.1 and 10 tells the true story.

Indeed,  kavira. I don't like neither win8 nor win10, i just remained with win7 ultimate.  Tongue
