Yahoo Devs Praise Microsoft’s Windows 10 App Concept
#1
Yahoo Mail has already been tweaked for Windows 10

Microsoft is hard at work to offer developers the right solutions to bring their apps on Windows 10, so every once in a while, the company provides us with examples of app creators that have already coded for the platform.

One such example is Yahoo, whose Yahoo Mail client is already available in Windows Store, with Microsoft getting in touch with the development team to better explain how the whole process of building apps for Windows actually goes.

In a lengthy post that’s specifically targeting developers, Josh Jacobson, director of product management for Yahoo Mail, explains that Redmond indeed offers major incentives to devs to create universal apps that can be used on both PCs and smartphones.

“We looked at what things we’re limited to in a browser, and what things in a desktop app we could really utilize to help users return to Yahoo Mail and use it as part of their daily workflow,” he said.

One store for everything

Microsoft then goes on to explain the advantages of universal apps on Windows 10, also pointing to the Windows Store as one major advantage because devs can get instant feedback from users downloading their apps.

“The Windows Store itself, for us, was an awesome experience because users are prompted automatically to give reviews,” Josh was quoted as saying. “We didn’t have to do a lot of work to get users to leave reviews, and we got lots of reviews right away as soon as we launched.”

Certainly, Microsoft’s betting big on the concept of universal apps, and this is actually the concept that CEO Satya Nadella is banking on, as it hopes that significant improvements in this regard could help address the lack of apps on the platform. Nadella previously played down the need for Android apps on the company’s mobile platform, asking for more time for universal apps to succeed.
