O&O ShutUp10 Receives New Features to Block Windows 10 Data Collection
#1
Version 1.3.1355 is now available for download

The way Windows 10 handles collected information from computers running it is brought back into the spotlights every once in a while with more or less accurate claims, but it’s no secret that many users have decided not to worry about this and installed apps that can block all telemetry services.

Such an example is O&O ShutUp10, an application that can disable all data collection processes in Windows 10 and turn off a little more than the options you see in the Settings screen of the operating system.

And thanks to an update released today, the program is even more effective, as it fixes a number of bugs but also introduces some new options.

New options

O&O ShutUp10 1.3.1355 now comes with an option to disable the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) and the Wi-Fi sense for all or just the currently logged-in user. Wi-Fi Sense is a Windows 10 feature that allows your device to automatically connect to wireless networks that have previously been used by your friends on Facebook, Outlook.com, or Skype.

Passwords for these networks are securely transmitted between contacts on Windows 10, so this way, you can remain connected all the time when known networks are discovered.

The same version of the app also comes with improvements to the SmartScreen filter, but also several other bug fixes, so in case you’ve experienced issues with a previous release, this is the right moment to update.

Remember that Microsoft does not recommend anyone to turn to such apps because they could affect the performance and reliability of the operating
system. Some features might be disabled, including Windows Update, which is a critical service to make sure that your computer is fully protected against the latest threats and vulnerabilities.

If you don’t mind taking these risks, you can always download O&O ShutUp10 and enable its privacy protection features to make sure no information leaves your PC without your authorization.

Quote:Windows 10 aims to make your daily work as easy and hassle-free as possible. This enhanced comfort is to be taken with a grain of salt though: Windows 10 quite freely shares your personal data with Microsoft and certain apps. Some services protocol your entire keyboard entries, share your WLAN access data with your facebook contacts or connect your computer without asking permission to a public – and potentially unprotected – network. While this means that you and your contacts do not have to grapple with complicated WLAN passwords, it also poses a significant security risk.

Windows 10 lets you deactivate most of the privacy endangering features manually, but not all in one place, and not especially easy to find.

O&O Software's freeware O&O ShutUp10 means you have full control over which comfort functions under Windows 10 you wish to use, and you decide when the passing on of your data goes too far. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10 should respect your privacy by making recommendations and giving tips for which unwanted functions should be deactivated. And should you change your mind later on, e.g. giving the personal assisstant Cortana a try, all changes can be reverted with a single click.
