Roberto Gomez bows out of World Pool Championship
#1
Information
Filipino Roberto Gomez saw his title bid in the 2021 World Pool Championship in Milton Keynes, England come to a screeching halt as he failed to reach the quarterfinals.

Undefeated going into the last 16 round, Gomez could not protect an early lead he built against American Skyler Woodward and absorbed a 7-11 loss in their knockout race-to-11 joust on Wednesday, June 9.

Gomez seized a 5-2 advantage before Woodward knotted the score at 5-5 as he used the four ball to pocket the nine ball in the 10th game.
Woodward then nailed six of the next eight games to advance to the quarterfinals.

The loss denied Gomez of completing his mission of becoming the fifth representative from the Philippines to win the World Pool Championship, next to Efren Reyes, Ronnie Alcano, Django Bustamante, and Carlo Biado.

Gomez reached the finals in the 2007 edition but fell short of the grand prize as he succumbed to English Daryl Peach, 17-15.
Still, Gomez raked in $4,000 (around P190,000) for finishing in the top 16 out of the 128-man field.

Earlier in the tournament, Filipino Jeff de Luna also bowed out of the World Pool Championship after dropping his first two matches. – Rappler.com
