A more dynamic Action Center coming in Redstone
The Action Center is certainly a useful feature on PCs running Windows 10, but it’s no secret that users have been asking for more features right from the moment when the new OS hit the shelves in mid-2015.
It appears that Microsoft is finally ready to deliver more improvements to the Action Center, and a new report from WinBeta reveals that one way to overhaul this feature is by adding a so-called Card UI.
The purpose here is to make the Action Center feel more dynamic, so the new cards will be responsible for showing more information than a standard notification. Furthermore, these notifications will appear not only in the Action Center but also in Cortana, as Microsoft is aiming to offer more consistency across the operating system.
Cortana will also play a second role for this new feature, as it’ll be responsible for delivering a more personalized experience, so all cards will be specifically tailored for you. You’ll be able to see appointments, maps information, messages on Skype, or social accounts straight in the Action Center, along with more information on everything, including the sender (such as the avatar) or location.
Third-party apps will also be supported:
You can directly interact with these cards, so for an appointment, you are allowed to cancel, view more information, or join via Skype, if there’s an online meeting. Messaging cards will probably come with options to quickly reply or contact the sender.
Third-party apps will support cards as well, the report states, as Microsoft knows that such a feature needs support from developers, but it remains to be seen how many apps will actually get this functionality and how fast.
The feature is likely to debut in Redstone and be presented by Microsoft at the BUILD developer conference that kicks off later today. And as usual, without an official announcement, things could change overnight, so don’t take anything for granted for now.
