Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Anniversary Update Launches in July
#1
RTM planned for July for the upcoming update

Microsoft has already announced Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and the company is now working with insiders on testing features that would be part of it, but Redmond hasn’t said anything about its release date.

Pundits, however, suggested that the Anniversary Update, also known as the Redstone Update, was expected in June or July, depending on how fast the development of these new features is complete.

And in a recent slide shown at WinHEC, Microsoft confirms that RTM for this upcoming update is planned for July, with the public launch very likely to take place during the same month. Insiders are most likely expected to get the final build first, and NPU speculates that the public release of the Anniversary Update could take place on July 29.

This schedule does make sense, given the fact that July 29 is the date when Microsoft ends the free upgrade offer and Windows 10 turns 1, so it’s undoubtedly the perfect moment to introduce a new release called “Anniversary Update.”

Release taking place in two stages

The July release date for the Anniversary Update concerns only the RS1 version, which is actually the first wave of the update, with a second one projected to take place sometime in early 2017.

The Redstone update will thus arrive in two different waves, as Microsoft continues work on new features for Windows 10. Those that won’t be ready for the original wave coming in the summer will be included in the second release, when the company is also planning to ship new devices that come with this version pre-installed.

The Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2, for instance, are both expected to launch in spring 2017 with RS2 pre-installed, as that is the moment when Microsoft considers that Windows 10 reaches maturity.

Certainly, every single update is quite important for Windows 10 users, and the summer release will bring a plethora of new features, including a redesigned Start menu, Edge browser extension support, an overhauled Action Center, and many other new options and improvements across the operating system.
