Quote:President Trump has warned of a ‘very deadly period’ coming in the next one to two weeks.

Likening the number of fatalities to what was seen in world wars, he told reporters, “There’s going to be a very, very deadly period, unfortunately.”

“I really believe we probably have never seen anything like these kinds of numbers, maybe during the war - a world war. A World War I or II or something,” he added.

While avoiding giving specific numbers, he made it clear that the death toll was going to continue to mount.
As of the time of this writing, Johns Hopkins University is reporting over 312,000 cases of Coronavirus in the US, with over 8,500 deaths.

Even as he warned the country was heading into its ‘toughest’ weeks, he made it clear he was growing impatient with current social distancing restrictions and that he is eager to re-open the country in an effort to help the economy repair.

“Mitigation does work. But again, we’re not going to destroy our country,” Trump said. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the US government’s foremost infection disease expert, however, urged Americans to be patient with current social distancing and mitigation efforts, saying “as sobering and as difficult as this is, what we are doing is making a difference.”

Meanwhile, Governors and state health officials across the nation are struggling to find ventilators, raising alarms that shortages are likely to lead to more deaths. The rapid growth of new cases is quickly overwhelming hospital systems that are struggling to properly care for infected individuals while waiting for supplies they are in desperate need of.

The Trump administration has said they are working to distribute supplies to states that need them most in order to lose as few lives as possible.

Trump suggested to reporters that some states are asking for more supplies than they needed. His goal, he says, is to stay just days ahead of critical medical needs for each state.

“The fears of shortages have led to inflated requests,” he told reporters.

Taking his recent talk about hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, arthritis and lupus, to the next level, Trump also suggested he may start taking the drug as a preventative measure. This, despite a lack of evidence that the drug will work for Coronavirus.

Stay safe everyone.
