the program lets you check for new versions and notifies you to download and install the updated version. You need to activate the version checker option in the settings. The program does not support automatic updates



Now let’s discuss the main features of NetLimiter:

Real-time traffic monitoring:

Using the program, you can view any connection on your system. You can check the transfer rate and see the apps in real time traffic chart.

Limits:

You can set limits to the upload or download speed. This will help during peak hours to have good bandwidth usage

Firewall (Blocker):

This feature lets you easily prevent certain applications from connecting to the internet.

Priorities:

Using the program, you can prioritize internet traffic of one application over others.

Quotas:

Users will be able to add rules based on data transferred via specific app filters.

Long-term traffic statistics:

The program records all traffic on your machine. You can view these records later using Traffic stats tool.

Custom filters:

If you need more than basic entities like connections and applications, you can create your own Filters using advanced Filter editor.

To explain how the program is working please read these information:

The program is working on your internet or local network connections. Although several communication protocols are available (for example like IP, TCP, and so on) but the direction of connection is the only important for the program. Incoming connections are represented as red arrow while outcoming connections are represented as green arrow



The program has many built-in filters which control the internet traffic from your applications, for example internet explorer or Firefox. These filters allow you to create rules to perform certain functions according to your needs. Three rule types are available; firewall, limit, priority. You can specify any rule using the built-in rule editor. The process is very easy, simply select the filter, zone (internet or local network), type, direction, and priority from the drop-down menu. In addition, you can add a scheduler to the rule to run at a specific time.



You can also create custom filter for an application or website according to your wish. All you need is to use add filter option located under filter tab then specify the filter name and type (three types are available; composite, zone and filter). Finally; specify filter functions using the add button which opens filter function editor. For example; you can add a custom filter to detect and restrict unwanted traffic. The filter function in this type will be "Remote host is on Internet”. Finally, use the rule editor to add quota rule.



The activity tab will show you all traffic rate (download and upload) and priority of all your applications and IP addresses on your network. You can specify traffic limits to the download and upload rates. You can limit or block any connection with excessive use of your network, and you will be able to limit your bandwidth applications use.





The networks tab gives you detailed information about your system network based on the router information. It is automatically detected and can’t be changed. You can see MAC address, gateway IP, type of connection and so on. Networks are used during creation of custom filters

The program has a simple Firewall interface called Blocker. This is located in the main interface activity tabs.  You will be able to add, edit or delete rules to this firewall filter. Rules will be sorted according to its priority.



You can set bandwidth priorities using priorities tab and you have the option to reset the options here to the default in case you made changes that you don’t need anymore.



You can also use the child windows to check the traffic statistics and chart. The chart can be customized using the program options. The built-in stats tool that helps you to record long-term network traffic statistics and save them to a database file. You can view and even edit the collected data at any time.



The program has a security feature called permissions. This tool lets you easily set control privileges for any user account present on your computer. You have two available options either to monitor or to control. This will prevent unauthorized access to the program settings.



One interesting and useful feature is that you can install NetLimiter 4 on all of your machines so that you can easily remotely control these computers using TCP port 4045. After you set up the connection, simply use connect remotely option present under file menu then enter the IP address or a network name of the remote machine and click on Connect. That’s all!
