The Three "C"s That Made America Great: Christianity, Capitalism, and the Constitution. - Mike Huckabee.

1. Christianity --- My read of history tells me that the American "Work Ethic" that is at the foundation of America's economic success and is celebrated on "Labor Day" originated in the hearts of the German Christians shortly after the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.  ... It then made its way to England and America via immigration. ... The "Puritans" of Plymouth Rock and early New England expressed it as "God helps those who help themselves." -- They found a Biblical basis for this new work ethic in the scripture: -  "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might;" - Ecclesiastes 9:10. - The "Protestant Work Ethic" resulted not only in hard work but in the belief in saving whatever you earned that you did not need to spend. ... This is the basis of the "middle-class" of America which was further helped to grow by the institutionalization of the American school system and a stable banking system that made loans available to lower class Americans beginning with the G.I. Bill after WWII.  

2. Capitalism became fully born as the dominant economic philosophy of England and its colonies after the birth of the "Industrial Revolution" in early 18 century England and quickly made its way into the colonies of The British Empire, especially America.  ... Entrepreneurs (financial risk-takers) came from every class, creed, or race of people within the empire and continues to this day in the countries that allowed Capitalism to grow and flourish freely. - (*Marxism was conceived as the counter-philosophy and foe of Capitalism in England shortly after Capitalism became the nation's dominant economic ideology. ... To this day Marxism is the arch-enemy of Capitalism and all governments who support it.) 

3. The Constitution --- After the American Revolution, the final component of what became "GREATNESS" was realized with the ratification of The Constitution of the United States.  -- The Constitution came to the people of America when the "Founding Fathers" had what may be called an "epiphany" (sudden striking realization) as to what truly constitutes a Democratic Republic where people actually can practice "self-government" in the full sense of the term.  ... The Constitution of the United States was intentionally given the ability to change itself as the times' changed with the ability to add "amendments." -- Over time this meant that labor laws were enacted to protect and reward workers for their work ethic. ... And so, eventually, the people of America added to the federal laws of this land a time to celebrate those who embrace the work- ethic and called it "Labor Day."




(It is my argument and conviction that without the great economy of the United States, the Union would not have won the Civil War --- and the United States would not have been the deciding factor regarding the saving of Western Europe from the Nazis, defeating the Japanese in WWII, and saving the world from Communist Russia.)


*Sadly, since the "work ethic" was a by-product of the Protestant Revolution, the Catholic Nations of Europe and South America did not benefit from this cultural philosophy of the work ethic and all its by-products. -- This is why there has never been a middle-class of any size in these countries and Marxist Socialism or dictators always appeal to the lower classes. -- As a general rule, Entrepreneurs (major investments and financial risk-taking) come out of the upper class. -- The result of not having the  "THREE Cs" working in union or harmony is found in the term "Banana Republic."
