Vol. 4 | Chess Records Studios - Chicago, IL is an eclectic collection of drum hits, loops, grooves, in mono and stereo formats, produced by Ian Ballard at Ohm Studios.
This sample collection explores the rhythm and blues drum sounds of Sweet Home Chicago and emulates the iconic grooves found at 2120 S. Michigan Ave. go out, just off Record Row off South Michigan Avenue (roughly between Roosevelt Road and 22nd Street) on the city's nearby Southside.
The kits of these three drummers were always structured or tuned differently depending on the session. Therefore, a mix of Gretsch and old Ludwig drums were carefully tuned and muted to get the sounds needed for this collection. The cymbals are vintage and modern Zildjian A's and K's.
